Notes for contributors

All About Support is a charity that curates an online magazine focused on mental health, wellbeing and development across education and youth services in the UK. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines mental health as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community”. All About Support is largely concerned with these specific dimensions of mental health over issues related to mental illness.

We do not accept unsolicited submissions but we welcome enquiries from prospective writers. Contributors are invited to take part based on their professional insights and lived experience, and are not necessarily professional or experienced writers. Please note: Contributions are voluntary and unpaid. We do not offer fees or honoraria for published content.

What We Publish

We feature three types of content:

• Short reads – Concise case studies or snapshots of practice (typically 300–800 words) 

• Long-form feature articles – In-depth explorations of a theme, approach, or initiative (typically 1,000–1,800 words)  

• Interviews – Written questionnaires capturing insights from professionals across sectors

When we invite contributors, we specify the format we’re commissioning them - whether it’s a short read, feature article, or interview. This helps us maintain editorial balance and ensures each edition reflects a range of voices and styles.

Articles may include images, diagrams, or links to relevant resources.

Writing Style and Voice

We’re looking for writing that is:

• Reflective – Thoughtful, honest, and grounded in lived or professional experience  

• Accessible – Clear and jargon-free, suitable for a wide audience across sectors

• Practice-based – Rooted in real-world work, with insights that others can learn from or relate to  

We encourage contributors to write in the first person where appropriate, and to share not just successes but challenges, questions, and lessons learned. Your voice matters - this is not academic writing, and it’s not promotional copy. It’s a space for genuine reflection and connection.

Deadlines

e’ll propose a rough deadline in your initial invitation, based on our editorial schedule. This is a starting point, not a fixed commitment. If you need more time or have constraints, we’re happy to agree a timeline that works for everyone. Just let us know early in the process so we can plan accordingly.

Submission Format

All article manuscripts must be submitted in an editable format. We currently accept:

• Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)  

• LibreOffice Writer (.odt)   

• Rich Text Format (.rtf)  

We do not accept PDFs or locked formats, as we need to apply tracked changes and line numbers during the review process.

Contributor Bios

All contributors are asked to provide a short professional bio alongside their submission. This should include:

• Full name  

• Organisation or company name  

• Current role or job title  

• Email address (for internal use only; not published without consent)  

Your name, role, and organisation will be published alongside your article/interview.
